I am glad you are here!
Cascading Roots is founded on the belief that children grow best when supported by a connected and nurturing system. Through Child-Centered Play Therapy and thoughtful parent guidance, I provide a safe, accepting space where children can express themselves and grow at their own pace.
Together, I work to strengthen the family’s “roots,” empowering both children and parents in Western Washington to build resilience and deeper emotional connection.
About Me
Hi, I’m Marti, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor, and Play Therapist. I hold a Master of Science in Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Psychology from the University of Wyoming. Go Pokes!
My work with children began after a graduate play therapy course fundamentally reshaped how I understood development, behavior, and healing. What I once overlooked became clear: when children are given the right conditions, they naturally move toward growth. This understanding led me to center my work on early intervention and child-centered play therapy.
I approach counseling from a non-directive stance, grounded in the belief that I am not the expert on a child’s inner world. In the playroom, I serve as a mirror helping children deepen their awareness of themselves and strengthen their internal sense of self. I trust children to lead their process, and I take care not to stand in the way of their intrinsic motivation to thrive.
Like a river finding its path, children move toward healing when nothing blocks their flow. I work to remove obstacles, not create direction —honoring their curiosity, resilience, and self-determination every step of the way.
